Dave Dunfield - Test Equipment

Some people say that you can tell a lot about a designer by the test equipment he keeps - for the curious, these are the main tools residing on and around my benches these days.

Bench MultiMeters:

Fluke 8520A - Ultra-high precision 5-1/2 digit. Does 4-wire resistance measurements, programmable filters, sample rates, many options.

Fluke 8050A - 4-1/2 digit, does DB measurements. Good precision instrument.

Fluke 8010A (2) - Basic 3-1/2 digit DMM, Handy 10A mode for monitoring higher power devices.

Fluke 8800A - Older 5-1/2 digit LED DMM,

Fluke 8600A - Older 4-1/2 digit LED DMM.

Portable MultiMeters

Fluke 8060A (2) - Arguably one of the best DMMs Fluke ever made. 4-1/2 digit, DB measurements, frequency counter. Ultra reliable.

Fluke 76 - 3-3/4 digit, Frequency counter, Capacitance, Lo-Ohm range. Nice touch/hold feature. Very rugged.

Fluke 10 - Small and simple 3-3/4 digit, I use it mainly as a continuity buzzer and for quick voltage measurements.

Micronta 22-168 - 3-1/2 digit, 20Mhz Freq, Capacitance, Transistor tester, logic probe, Max/Min & mamories. Has RS-232 interface to capture readings.

Micronta 22-304B, 22-211 - Some tasks are best served by a simple analog meter.

Frequency Counters:

Fluke 1920A (2) - 9-digit, 5hz-520Mhz, ultra-high precision.

Fluke 1912A (2) - 7-digit, 5hz-520Mhz, period, total-count, high-precision option installed.

Navtel 4800A - 8-digit, 5hz-520Mhz

RS 22-305 - 8-digit, 1Mhz-1Ghz

Oscilloscopes:

Hewlet Packard 54201D (2) - Lots of measurement capability available via direct front panel entry. Does 50Mhz in a single-shot capture, and 300Mhz with random sampling of repetitive waveforms. 27 channel logic analyser triggering.

Tektronix TDS210 - Handy portable LCD DSO. 60Mhz analog, and 1Gsample allows full-rate single-shot capture.

Gould OS4000 - Older traditional format 10Mhz, DSO with full analog mode as well. Has a unique "roll" mode which allows easy capture of pre-trigger events. For certain things is just the right tool for the job.

Tektronix 7623A - 100Mhz 4-channel analog storage (mainframe) with 7A26 (2) and 7B53A plug-ins. Nothing beats it when you need to see more than two things at once.

JDR 2000 - Basic dual-channel analog scope.

Logic Analyzers:

Hewlet Packard 1630D - 43 channels 25/100Mhz. Good basic analyzer

Tektronic 1240 - 54 50Mhz channels installed. I've got many ROM packs, expansion modules etc.

Audio Tools:

Bayly STA-02 - Selective Tone Analyzer. Two variable tone generators, DTMF generator, Precise DB measurements at selectable frequency. 2-wire/4-wire interfaces.

RS 33-2050 - Sound pressure meter

Soldering Equipment:

Edsyn 951SX - Variable temperature soldering station.

Weller WTCP-N - Soldering Station

Weller DS600 - Desoldering station

Soldapullt DS017 - Desoldering pump

Device Programmers:

Data I/O 29B - With Unipak2B, Gangpak and Logicpak adapters, many PLD adapter for Logicpak including PALASM and H&L ROM modules.

Data I/O 29A - With Unikak2, Gang programming module and Logicpak adapters.

Gtek 7128 - Portable EPROM programmer.

P&E ICD16 - 68HC16 in-circuit programmer.

Kanda - Various in-circuit flash-device programming dongals.

Homebuilt - Eprom programmer
